Gardening Thursday - Big leaves, tiny squash

Hi there gardening buddies!!

I don't know about you, but I like to go sit under the big pumpkin/squash leaves.

The sweet perfume of the compost pile is delicious...mmmm!

Today, I was doing just that when Tiny came along and found me!

Together, we found Mom!

As you can see, the leaves are HUGE.....BUT the actual 'fruit' is really small. Mom read that if the fruit is small it is often the result of not enough sunshine and warm weather. BINGO! We have had a lot of rain lately, low temperatures and not much sunshine. Grrrr!!

Who do I have to beg to get more sunshine and warm weather?

(Tiny: I'll just sit here and look pretty and make goo-goo eyes...perhaps that carries some weight in the whole scheme of the universe. Hmm?)

IMPORTANT REQUEST: We learned that our gardening buddy/mentor Jonesie (Society of Feline Gardeners) was attacked in her own yard by a mean little dog...as a result, Jonesie is afraid to go back outside - in the garden. Evfurryone, please, please, please, go tell Jonesie that we are all purring for her to find her courage and come back out...we'll all be behind her emotionally (we would be there physically, too, if we could!!). Oh yeah, make sure to suggest to her to ask Grete to be her doggyguard....there's no way that dang little mean dawg will mess with Grete!!

We LOVE your squash leaves and think it would be great fun to play under them! We're sorry there's been too much rain for the squash to grow very large...There's still August, though!

Aw, that's really sweet of you to purr for Jonesie. She read everyone's meows and woofs and most of all...she knows that dad closed up JRT sized holes in the fence. She is now back in her garden, but Cecilia and Figaro are sticking close to her. Grete woofie also looks out for her too. Mom won't allow Grete to chew up JRT's...even if they are being mean and awful. We were wondering if Ellwood could come over and talk to that mean JRT woofie...terrier to terrier and talk some sense into her.

Jonesie will be reporting from the garden tomorrow!

Purrs,

Cory

We were very glad to see that Jonesie had in fact made it back outside.

Here's hoping for lots of sunshine in August!

We are bummed that your squashies did not get enough sunshine to get bigger. We hope the sun comes out and makes up for lost time.

But you two look absolutely gorgeous out there!!!!!!!

We have been over to see Jonesie.

Hi Lautrec! Hi Tiny (and hi to Ellwood too). We think that those big leave in the garden look great for sitting under. We are sorry the fruits aren't bigger though - we hope you get some better weather soon! And we will go visit Jonesie asap!

That looks really cool and peaceful under those leaves! We have some thing growing in the garden like that, but in the area we are not allowed to go!

Those big squash leaves make great shades and hideouts, don't they?
