Gardening Thursday

Hi there!! As we all know, Fall is officially here. And we of the gardening variety and members of SOFG (for more information and to become a member, please visit Cory Cat Blog and talk to Master Gardener Jonesie), know that just because Fall is here it doesn't mean our work in the garden is finished. No, no, no, no!!

The word 'fall' implies that something will drop or go down without support. We all can think of a lot of things that fall, but in this case I'm not talking about food falling in our dishes, or rain falling on our heads (though rain does play a roll in today's topic). I'm talking about LEAVES!! Leaves in the Fall are pretty and when they fall, they are like big colorful snowflakes. Playing in a pile of leaves is also fun, or watching birds digging through leaves. But leaves aren't always welcome and eventually they have to be removed from most places...I'm especially talking about rain gutters. Rain gutters must be kept clean of all debris and leaves. Yep. This is very important otherwise when those big Fall rains start, the water won't run freely down the drain pipes, but will get backed up and will overflow over the gutters and possibly you'll get a waterfall of water on your head if you just happen to go outside at the wrong time and in the wrong place.

As you can see in the above two photos, I am busy making sure that the drains (well, in this case, the DRAIN PIPES) are clean and free of leaves (no, I am NOT SLEEPING, I had something in my eyes when this picture was taken!). This part of the job is very, very demanding - hey! it's a lot of work looking up the drain pipe!! Oh, and no, I don't actually clean them myself, I'm the boss here and it is my job to check, control and snoopervise...it is someone elses' job to actually do the CLEANING!! In fact, after I finish here, I'll have to get up on the roof and check the gutters...maybe I'll save that for another day though since now I'm just plain pooped out and need a nap. Later.

-------
Only 2 days until D-DAY. What is D-DAY? Some of you know, but the rest of you will just have to wait and see....we're not sure ourselves exactly what the D is (though maybe you can guess), all I know is that things are going to be crazy around here...and it won't just be for a little while....I can feel it in my bones and I'm not sure I'm going to like it. Not sure at all.

So much work for you, and such "great expectations"..No wonder you're feeling stress and need a good nap! masters have subjects to worry that little people can't understand..

D-Day? Are you getting a new sibling or something like that? Is is your birthday? Rats, our mom will be gone and we won't be able to find out until in two weeks time. The suspense is killing us. Maybe you can tell us when you come to party on the 10th of October...
You're doing a superb job there, Lautrec. And don't you just LOVE leaf piles?!

We love to watch the leaves fall...and then the wind catches them and they blow all around!! But you're right about keeping the drains free from leaves...we like how you snoopervised that!!

Now what is D-Day??

Um, Lautrec? Are you sleeping in the gutter?!? It does look a little bit comfy.

Lautrec, we can tell that you're doing very important work. You absolutely deserve a nap (and we love that last photo!) And our gutters are a big mess - they don't work right even when they are clean. Maybe you can come over and tell us what to do about them?

We think we know what D-Day means - we really hope it all goes well!

Oh Lolo! Jonesie here! I think you owe it to all of our garden society members to truly represent what you are doing and how dangerous it is. I mean, if it rained...those pipes could flow water at you so fast. It could be a FLASH FLOOD...and you could be carried away...surely saving your family from harm, but placing you at great risk.

This is advanced stuff!!

pee ess...we'll purr for you on D-Day...but for some reason Grete and Oliver are laughing....

You sure are doing a GRR-8 job making sure the leaves aren't in the way of water flows. DDay??? We're not sure what that means...

Since we can't go outside, we sure enjoy your telling us about stuff you have to snoopervise out there...gutters? You look like you have found a nice place to lounge, just curved right for your slinky bod!
