Gardening Thursday

Well, we don't have much to SHOW you of our garden for today's gardening post, but we can say that we did have a nice, big, funny squash (that weighs about 3kgs /6lbs) - that Mom picked and when she did, she thought immediately about...

a SNAKE!!

Would you believe that we already have a TON of dry leaves on the ground in our garden....Fall is here and we are sad. Sad, sad, sad, sad, SAD!! But our snakey makes us smile so at least when we are inside we are not sad!! Have a great day everyone! Your buddies, Lolo and Tiny, members of SOFG (see here for more info!)

Gardening Thursday - SOFG

We feline AND canine gardeners (Jonesie the Master Gardener does have Grete, right?) and members of SOFG consider ourselves to be equally responsible for the garden in one way or another...the canines fertilise it (no pictures necessary!)...

...and occastionally do some cleaning (e.g. flower pots)...

...and we felines keep the grass trim...

...and give a certain calming beauty to the whole ensemble.

We all watch over it and admire it and enjoy frolicking and rolling in the deep grass out behind the barn where the squashes are growing...

(check out these wild, giant snake-looking squash that we have)

... just as we enjoy listening to the purring sounds of the bumble bees as they lazily fly from one Japanese Anemone to another and another (we have hundreds of them) or as they crawl around on the dinner plate sized center of the giant sunflowers or as they try to find the secret place to step on to open the snapdragon's mouth or the sweetpea's heart. Gardens are great. Here we are doing our best to help and appreciate ours on these very last days of summer (and oh what a short and rotten summer it was here....grrr.)

You see, even Ellwood is praying that we have just a few more days of warm weather...bless him!

(Cripes...Blogger is playing games with our minds...it won't let us center certain bits of text!! GrrrHiss!)

Gardening Thursday - Watch This Space!

WHAT IS THIS HODGEPODGE OF STICKS AND DIRT?
OK, I agree, this doesn't look like much right now,
but I tell you: WATCH THIS SPACE!!

As members of the Society of Feline Gardeners - SOFG (see here) we just planted several kinds of squashes and even cucumbers in our 'aged' compost pile. It had a year to work itself up into a good bit of soil so we finally turned it (well, I had a lesser being do it for me...no sense me getting my gorgeous self dirty! Heaven forbid!!) and now we have 'officially' planted the seedlings. Why do I say 'officially'? Well, because normally we just throw a pumpkin into the compost in early Spring and wait to see what grows which, in the past, has been masses of pumpkins and miles of pumpkin vines. This year though, Mom decided that we needed to be more civilised - even if the location is not so civilised - about it and grow a more interesting variety of squashes in the compost so she ordered a few kinds of seeds and now all we can do is wait and see what kind of show/exhibit they are going to put on for the whole world to see.

To be honest, I'm not really SURE what exactly you are looking at behind me...

...but I do believe these two guys are supposed to be
a nice marbley green-skinned pumpkin.

I guess we will all have to be patient and just wait to see what comes up....

...but I have to say that I've already got an appetite just thinking about what MIGHT grow.

----------- Flower Power -----------
And while we are in the garden (field) I would like to give this daisy to my pretty AttieCattie and hope that she forgives me for our long blogging absence*.
A flower for my Sweet. (Please visit her blog and also visit the rescue blog she refers to in her post of June 7...please!!)

Honestly, you have to admit that I look pretty darn manly strutting around in that patch of daisies. Tell me you can resist my charm....try!!

(*Note: we were not bloggin due to a forced time-out as a result of some incompetent person at the telephone company accidentally turning our internet off!! Hisss!)

Gardening Thursday - with Ellwood!!

Hello Efurryone, Ellwood here on this lovely gardening Thursday.
So! Sometimes gardening means going backwards a bit. What do I mean? Well, sometimes you may already have things growing and you have to take them away and re-organise them. That is just what we are in the process of doing here. Above, you'll see the flower bed that Mom was working on last Fall....in this picture she had just weeded it, but wasn't happy, so this Spring she decided to DIG IT ALL UP...

You might be wondering WHY she did this. Well, even though there were quite a few things growing in that flower bed, IT WAS A MESS!! Mom decided that she wants to get rid of some of the stuff that just was taking over and organise it better so that the good stuff shows up better. So she dug it all out. But to her GREAT SURPRISE, while digging up and turning the earth, she found A TON OF JUNK !! Just look!!

Miles of wire, mountains of bricks (at least 3 wheelbarrows overflowing), pieces of roof tiles and floor tiles, several pounds/kilos of glass shards, plastic, old light switches, and just 'stuff'!! You must understand that once upon a time, where this flower bed now is, there was a barn...but that was many, many years ago (our house is something like 200 years old) and since then they decided to use certain parts of the former barn's foundation as a place for burying junk. (Gee! What a excellent idea...NOT!) Back then people didn't recycle or even think that putting junk in the ground is a stupid idea. Mom was really annoyed to find all this stuff there where her flowers had been (no wonder they weren't looking terribly happy), but was humoured when she uncovered this:

You see what it is? It's a very dirty ceramic dog missing an ear!! It kinda, sorta, but not really looks a little like me!!

We'll keep you posted on how this flower bed is looking now that it is being all replanted. Remember: WATCH THIS SPACE!! And make sure to look at the other gardening posts today of the members of SOFG (see link). Maybe you will be inspired!!

Thursday, Friday and Monday all in One...boy are we embarassed!!

Hello Efurryone...we are so utterly and totally humiliated by our lateness in posting. Seriously, below is Friday's post with Ellwood as our host, while below Friday's post is THURSDAY'S post...LAST Thursday's post!!! We are soooo embarrassed to be so totally late that Tiny and I just want to hide our faces in shame. Shame. SHAAAAAAMMMMEE. Even Ellwood is embarrassed and he hardly ever gets embarrassed. We are so sorry AND we are super sorry that we haven't been commenting much lately. The problem is the weather. It's so nice that Mom goes out the door and we don't see her for HOURS AND HOURS and just when we are about to die of starvation, she comes in and feeds us but won't let us use the computer because she is too tired to turn it on. How tiring could it be to turn on a computer. Tell us, please!! But just so you know...we do visit you, but sometimes we look at several days of posting in one shot. We love to see what everyone is doing...please, please forgive us for not sharing our thoughts with you...no news is good news? Will that work? No? OK, we will try to be better commenters. Promise!!

Friday's Fetch-A-Dog-A-Bone Day

Big bone? For me? Me wants, me wants!!!

Ahhh, but I just ate so what should I do with this thing? Hmmm.....

Uh, would you just back off please? BACK OFF! Geez, can't a guy have a little private time with his fresh kill?

OK, while no one is looking I'm gonna bury this baby in the pond grass. No one will find it here and the best part is that there is no mess...no brown nose, no brown paws. I am sooo smart. I am Ellwood!

-------

And now, a VERY, VERY LATE posting of our Thursday Gardening post
- Society of Feline Gardeners -
(psst! Go to the link for more info)

I am a 'green angel'...see my green wings??
Only the best of gardeners have these...I am sooo good!

I think the grass compliments my eyes...what do you say?

Hullo there little buggie!! Not all buggies are bad...actually, many are good. Continue on...you have been accepted.

We have thoroughly checked this area and give it a 8 paws seal of approval.

I'm working hard..the usual, air and light control tests going on...do not interrupt, please!!

Checking for any introoders..

Yep, I think I need to get our grounds people (a.k.a. Mom and/or Dad) to cut the grass.

What are YOU lookin' at...GET TO WORK!!

I'm takin' a little break here to smell the flowers.

As head gardener, I would like to say that I apologise for the delay in our garden post, but not only did Blogger (oops, I almost wrote 'Booger') keep us from posting (ok, albeit LATE...as in A DAY LATE), but Mom didn't get on the puter either to help us so this Society of Feline Gardeners post is super late and I send my sincerest apologies to all you gardening fans. We will do our best to be on time this week. (Mom, you hear that?)

I am lion, hear me roar. Well, at least you can hear my bell jingle. Oh, and WHY do I have this humongous bell on me you ask? Because Mom likes to know where I am when I walk around the garden and thanks to this gimongous bell I got into mega trouble the other day when I was VEWY VEWY QWIETWY sneaking down the street...the middle of the street...when Mom came running out of the gate and up to me...SHE HEARD MY BELL JINGLING IN THE STREET (where, as you might guess, I am NOT supposed to be...EVER!) and grabbed me up and gave me a huge scolding. Stupid bell...spoils all the fun. Grrr.

Gardening Thursday

It's Thursday and like our friend Jonesie, we like to spend time in the garden (for more info on the Society of Feline Gardeners, please visit Cory Cat Blog) ...well, there aren't too many gardening days left now we think...we were, however, enjoying a nice, sunny day near the grapevines the other day...the grapes are nearly ripe, but because we had such a soggy summer they didn't get enough sun to turn nice and sweet and seem to be a bit on the sour side. Too bad, but they are pretty. Dad decided to dry them...maybe they will be tasty like that!

Over on the buddlaia bush on that warm day there were tons of butterflies getting drunk on the pretty flowers...they were so drunk that some of them even let Mom pick them up!! Aren't they pretty?

This time of the year the 'fusain' tree is blooming...it's pretty fushia pink and bright orange flowers are really cool. Nature sure knows how to make a great show!

The grass was super long in our upper garden so Tiny and I were playing hide-and-seek there...since then Dad cut the grass..he's just no fun. So what if there are ticks hiding out in the grass!!
